I am sadly realising that my current post is but casting handful of thoughts into black hole of today's people minds. The bitter truth that I see everyday, since introducing of MTV, is that we have been breeding whole generations of children-consumers that inside their skulls carefully carry brains expecting outside world to deliver them pictures and sounds with the speed of tens per second. If it's somewhat lower than expected, they start to hate the reality and consider it boring. Their minds expect world to be a video clip. Noisy, jazzy, beeping and flashing, stroboscopic vision-wise, sound-wise.
And what I want today to ponder and revisit a work of art from early seventies. It has an iconic cover of prism refracting whiteness into rainbow set of colors, all on simple black background. Created by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell. A classy symbol of cleverness and beauty.
The topic of today is a masterpiece about madness. A genius suite. Loved by millions so maybe enough words said? skilfully crafted in legendary recording studio at Abbey Load, London. By a person who himself is a talented musician leading once his own rock group called Alan Parsons Project.
Ready to start a journey? well, start the link and dim the light. I personally just LOVE to listen to it in either complete darkness or outdoors gazing at starry night.
You should try that out some time, too. My Wife Gosia confessed that she just adored listening to it while watch northern lights near Tromso, Norway, having her headphone set on, all lying on her back at a high snowdrift, cosmic privacy. Watching the shapes, hues and colours delicately mesmerising up above... I can imagine that could be cool. But I leave that one to Her.
Like Venezia deserves every person on Earth to visit the place, this art piece is worth hearing. It is ultimate Perfection.
I am of course talking about the 8th album of British symphonic rock group Pink Floyd. And it is about The Dark Side Of The Moon.
Highly inspiring, diverse, intrinsic feel, insight, remarks and comments. On human greed, passing of time, breathing, death, changes, conflicts, isolation, unity, religion, mental incompatibility with the world. All in all, it is greatest album of all time. I am Beatle fan, yet I agree that this workpiece is best. And it was done in the very same location as "Abbey Road" by the Beatles.
I am true fan who remains unimpressed by facts and figures of sales and topping the charts. But this one is a class of its own. It until today remains peerless achievement.
That record starts and ends with human heartbeat. As it flows, it is using countless loops, overdubs, snatches of real world interviews with band and crew, lots of transition effects between songs to make listener to gently move from one "mind's room" to another. A real gamechanger, a milestone in world of Music for our generation. I myself hearing it for the first time in my life was on my knees, listening to my cousin's mono cassette player. In complete darkness of his sleeping room in Kraków, Poland. It was overwhelming greatness. No obsolete note. I loved ever since then. I hope so would you.
This Album is valid and meaningful for people. The legend says that during communist era, one of Poland's beloved, quite free minded radio stations called Trójka, introduced some unique custom. As not all of local radio receivers were able to broadcast programs in stereo at that time, the process of introducing stereo phony was done gradually through years. But just as during that process a region in Poland was receiving a gift of stereo broadcast, Trójka was greeting that fact by broadcasting "Dark Side" for even new circle of listeners, just to share the Experience. To enchant new crowds to the great journey amidst songs.
And of course, there's Clare Torry's great vocalise of Great Gig In The Sky. critics claim to to be a "Soulfull methaphore of death". I hoever think it is just a song about Norwegian Aurora Borealis glimmering above freshly gone snow blizzard, all grabbed by the organ. Enjoy.

PS: if you hate interruptions or ads, just buy the Album.
PPS: Back in the old times, it had another advantage. We were carrying our personal music on portable cassette players. And if you bought a C-90 cassette, you had it all. On side you put "Dark Side", on the flip side - "Wish You Were Here" (their next LP) and then you had it saturated with beauty. WOW, what a feast it was for young souls of the time!..
PPPS: I hope that you would agree that song "Money" seems to be inspired by earlier Beatles Instrumental called "12 Bar Original". Hear for yourself:
